Autologous biostimulation consists of taking a simple blood sample to obtain growth factors from a patient’s plasma which are then injected into the facial skin. It helps to improve on dull and sagging skin. Growth factors (GF) are proteins which belong to the cytokines group and help to activate the fibroblast. This is achieved through the binding of the autologous growth factors (produced by the patient’s own body) to the fibroblast membrane receptors. In this way, autologous growth factors regulate essential tissue regeneration and repair functions: they attract cells to where they are most needed, stimulate their proliferation and functionality and increase micro-vascularization resulting into smoothness, hydration, and elasticity of the skin.
Various cells in the body can produce and store autologous growth factors. Platelets, elements present in all wounds and bodily wear and tear, are particularly involved in healing processes, and as such are extremely important for growth factors.
Platelets are relatively easy to obtain and, if correctly handled, can be an important source of growth factors. Consequently, a part of the treatment consists of obtaining a small blood sample prepared to provide a platelet-rich plasma. The platelets are activated in order to segregate the growth factors which are then re-injected via superficial micro-injections on the skin of the same patient using the mesolift technique. A local anaesthetic can be used (an analgesic solution administered 20-30 minutes beforehand), or simply numb cream. Also injected into the skin is a solution of aminoacids and coenzymes which the fibroblast uses to synthesise collagen, elastin and hyaluronan, the skin’s essential structural elements.
The treatment consisting of micro-injections of growth factors should be repeated once a month and can be combined with fractional peeling (superficial peeling allied to mesolift) and other types of skin treatment (IPL, cosmetology, etc). Fundamentally natural and physiological, bio-stimulation through autologous growth factors provides a deep-seated treatment for dull and saggy skin.
We often recommend A.B.I as an add-on therapy to soft laser treatments, to deliver the best results possible to our patients.
