Melasma & Pigmentation

Melasma and pigmentation disorders cause changes in skin color, controlled by melanocytes which produce the pigment melanin. Hyperpigmentation leads to darker patches like age spots. It’s commonly due to sun exposure, trauma, hormonal changes, and sometimes aging, appearing primarily on the face, shoulders, neck, and hands. Melasma, often seen in adult women, presents as brown or greyish spots and patches, triggered by hormonal imbalances, pregnancy, contraceptive pills, or polycystic ovaries​​.
