Cellulite is a cosmetic problem. According to recent studies, cellulite has been found to affect between 85 and 95 per cent of women. While it is a common complaint between women, men are not exempt and also can develop it.
It can affect people of all ages, shapes and sizes including those who are very slim. Cellulite can appear anywhere on the body, but most commonly appears on the thighs, buttocks, hips, upper arms and back, or wherever fat deposits are at their most concentrated. Cellulite is caused when the connective tissue bands beneath your skin surrounding fat cells become tight and inflexible. Enlarged pockets of fat trapped by the rigid bands push up against the skin, giving the familiar dimpled appearance of cellulite at skin level. This effect can be exacerbated by thin skin which makes it appear more prominent.
Hard cellulite, often seen in younger clients, is one of the first signs of developing cellulite that can appear as early as the teenage years. It is bumpy, often likened to a peel in appearance, and doesn’t shift or change with body movement. Distinctly, oedematous cellulite is usually the result of several health issues. Difficult to treat, it is induced by circulatory problems and fluid retention. Seen most typically in the thighs, knees, and calves, oedematous cellulite can cause the legs to lose their defined shape.
