Wegovy Case A Visual

Wegovy® - What Is It?

Wegovy® is a once-weekly prescription injection containing semaglutide 2.4 mg, developed for chronic weight management when used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Wegovy has been officially launched in Malaysia as a treatment option for adults living with obesity, or adults who are overweight with related health issues.

How Wegovy Works

Your body has natural signals that influence hunger, cravings, and fullness. Wegovy mimics a gut hormone called GLP-1, which acts on areas of the brain involved in appetite regulation — helping many people feel satisfied sooner and reduce overeating.

Think of it as:

  • Less “food noise” and fewer cravings for some people

  • Better control of appetite patterns (with lifestyle support)

  • A structured medical plan that’s easier to follow consistently

Wegovy® (semaglutide) injection is a prescription, once-weekly injectable medicine used for chronic weight management in adults (and some adolescents) with obesity, or overweight with at least one weight-related medical condition. It works by mimicking a natural hormone (GLP‑1) that helps reduce appetite and cravings, so you feel fuller longer and eat less. Wegovy is used along with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

What You Can Expect

Potential Side Effects

This image illustrates the possible side effects of Wegovy (semaglutide). It provides a visual overview of common and potential adverse reactions people may experience while taking the medication.

Like all prescription medicines, Wegovy can cause side effects.

Most common adverse reactions (≥5%) include:

  • nausea
  • diarrhoea
  • vomiting
  • constipation
  • abdominal pain
  • headache
  • fatigue
  • dyspepsia
  • dizziness
  • abdominal distension

Your doctor will also review important safety considerations (e.g., pancreas/gallbladder concerns, dehydration risks from GI side effects, and other contraindications) before starting treatment.

Wegovy vs Ozempic — What’s the Difference?

Wegovy and Ozempic are the same drug (semaglutide): Wegovy is higher-dose for weight loss, Ozempic is for type 2 diabetes (lower dose).

Both contain semaglutide, but they are not interchangeable:

  • Wegovy is indicated for chronic weight management (higher-dose formulation).

  • Ozempic is indicated for type 2 diabetes (and cardiovascular risk reduction in certain adults with T2D).

Your doctor will decide what is appropriate based on diagnosis, goals, and safety profile.
